Samantar Devanagari Font Family was designed by Dhwani Shah and published by Indian Type Foundry. Samantar Devanagari contains 6 styles and family package options. Samantar Devanagari is a super-compact sans serif for the Devanagari and Latin scripts. It ships in two different formats: users can install Samantar Devanagari either as a single Variable Font or use its five static OpenType font files. The chief benefit of the Variable Font is its stretch axis. By using that, users can adjust the height of the letterforms in the fonts. Together, the static font files offer letterforms with a total of five different heights ranging from Samantar Devanagari Shortest to Samantar Devanagari Tallest. While those offer a fine amount of options, the Variable Font is simply more versatile. With it, users can select from almost 1,000 subtly differentiated font-height possibilities. In terms of its design, Samantar Devanagari features monolinear characters. The fonts lowercase Latin-script letters have tall x-heights; their ascenders only rise slightly above the height of the capitals. That is true regardless of how much you stretch the font out: the x-height will always increase along with the letters total measurements. The same is true for the Devanagari scripts glyphs. All Devanagari base characters take up most of the cartesian space available, and they are all paired with shorter vowel marks, too. Samantar Devanagari was designed in-house at ITF by Dhwani Shah. In Hindi, the word Samantar means parallel, which is quite an appropriate name for such a condensed typeface!
