Kurs Variable Font Family was designed by Sandro Bonomo and published by Blaze Type. Kurs Variable contains 1 styles and family package options. Kurs is a display serif inspired by the concept of the “New Renaissance”, which rethinks the Renaissance as a moment of transition between the Medieval and Modernity. When paradigms shift—without new models to stand with—insecurity grows alongside anxiety, bringing consequences in society that we can clearly see then, as well as today. These concepts translate into shapes with stark contrasts between thick and thin lines, soft and flat curves, spiky serifs and terminals. Harshness and opposition of shapes were at the core of an attempt to depict a small part of what it means to live today. The name Kurs is the German word for “course”, which fits both thematically and phonetically with the typeface. Additionally, there is assonance with words like curse, cursive, and kursiv, all of which, in their own way, identify within the appearance of the shapes.
