Caslon Bold is the Bitstream version of Caslon 3, originally designed by the American Type Founders in 1905. This typeface is based on William Caslon I’s first English Old Style typefaces from 1725. Caslon drew inspiration from late 17th-century Dutch types, but his artistic skills allowed him to enhance those models, introducing a variety of forms and subtle details.The strokes in Caslon Bold are somewhat heavier than in earlier Old Style fonts, with thicker and slightly stubby serifs. The italic letters have an uneven slope, adding character to the typeface. Text set in Caslon Bold remains legible and aesthetically appealing.
