Basis Grotesque Mono Variable Font Family was designed by published by Colophon Foundry. Basis Grotesque Mono Variable contains 2 styles and family package options. Initially drawn in a single Regular style for the comprehensive re-design of photography magazine Hotshoe. Basis was exhaustively refined and extended into a seven-style brood, and in-so-doing has been tested in copious iterations and sub-iterations across countless platforms, printed and otherwise.Initial points of inspiration — among them Akzidenz and various early Grotesques from Monotype — were ultimately eschewed-but-honored to create something slightly more behaved and shapely. An intentional skeletal similarity among the weights prompts an otherwise truly diverse clan of types, ranging from Light to Black.
