Intercom Devanagari Variable Font Family was designed by Arya Purohit and published by Indian Type Foundry. Intercom Devanagari Variable contains 1 styles and family package options. Intercom Devanagari is a low-contrast typeface designed for the Devanagari and Latin scripts. Although the difference between the letterforms’ thick and thin strokes is not high, they retain visible stroke contrast. Everything about Intercom Devanagari’s appearance seems as streamlined as possible. Its Latin-script characters are sans serif, and the fonts are intended for use in display typography, particularly in editorial design applications online and in print. The product ships in two different formats: users can either install Intercom Devanagari as a single Variable Font or use its five static OpenType font files. The static format’s fonts range in weight from Light through Bold. While that offers a fine amount of intermediary steps for creating typographic contrast, users who install the Variable Font instead will have vastly greater control over their text’s stroke width. The Variable Font provides almost 1,000 subtly differentiated font-weight possibilities, allowing users to fine-tune the appearance that text should have on-screen or in print. In terms of its design, Intercom Devanagari’s characters are constructed by nature. The fonts’ letterforms are quite open, which gives the typeface an increased degree of legibility in comparison with other display products. The fonts’ Latin-script letters have a tall x-height, combined with very short ascenders and descenders. In the Devanagari script, the fonts’ base characters take up most of the available cartesian space. They are paired with vowel marks that are short in height. In languages written with either script, Intercom Devanagari enables compact multi-line settings. That makes the design an excellent choice for setting journalistic headlines, but Intercom Devanagari can shine in corporate identity projects as well. The typeface was developed in-house at ITF by Arya Purohit.
